Making Peace With Our Flaws

Accepting our flaws does not diminish our strengths.
Instead, it allows us to truly rely on God and the people in our lives. Humanity’s imperfection is obvious. Listening to the news for barely 3 minutes reveals the extent to which brokenness penetrates every aspect of life.
That’s without taking into account the personal brokenness that we all deal with on a daily basis.
I know that the dark places in our hearts are challenging to step into. It takes a lot of effort to accept personal responsibility.
It’s simpler for me to blame, accuse, or avoid my flaws. However, allowing the light of truth to shine in places we’d rather keep hidden has a liberating effect.
There is something powerful about allowing the gentle hand of God to uncover things that we would rather hide-it’s the pathway to reclaiming our true selves.
Personally, I have found this process to be humbling. I’m less preoccupied with criticising people when I see my own tendency for selfishness and greed.
I may not agree with everyone’s behaviour, but the understanding of my own impure motives allows me to realise that even the best of us are in need of grace and mercy.
Our weaknesses humble us. They keep us linked with those who can support us in a world of individualism. Together, we grow and evolve for the better. Isolated, we fall prey to self-pity or self-importance.
In order to grow and flourish as people, we have to embrace our weaknesses and allow those who matter to see us unfiltered. Our creator already does. But when we choose to lead and live with vulnerability so that we may actually be seen, we learn a lot about ourselves and others.
